Domaine Loriot

Menetou-Salon is a commune in the eastern part of the Loire Valley,16 kilometers north of Bourges, near the towns of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, thus it follows that Sauvignon Blanc is the most popular white grape here. The vineyards in the appellation of Menetou-Salon comprise only 330 hectares (815 acres) so the wine is not nearly as well-known as Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé. It is an ancient wine-producing area, first mentioned in documents from the years 1063 and 1097. We discovered this wine on a recent Bordeaux trip. It was made by Francois and Jean Marie Cherrier, owners of Domaine du Loriot (we have carried the Cherrier Sancerre for years).

The owned vineyards within the domain had been cultivated since 1988 when the first procedures for wine produc- tion were commencing. In continuation of the long term tradition of the family, all the indigenous and rare grape varieties at the vineyards were preserved and gradually more were added. The grape varieties have been carefully selected in order to be completely adjusted to the local ground and climate conditions and always according to the principles of the organic farming and to the protection of the environment.
