Chateau Margaux

chateau-margaux-margaux-france2

Château Margaux is one of those Grands Crus which have made the reputation of the wines of the Bordeaux region and more particularly of the Left Bank, in the Médoc. From the 12th century, the property was known under the name of “ Mothe de Margaux ” since the Médoc is indeed a region without relief. At the end of the 17th century, Château Margaux will occupy the area it still occupies today: 262 hectares, one-third of which is used for growing vines. This landmark period for Margaux described as the " golden century» Marks the beginning of the recognition of the Grand Cru beyond the borders thanks to the influence of the English and the Dutch. From then on, its rise will only begin and its reputation will be confirmed by obtaining the title of “ Premier Grand Cru Classé ” in the official classification of 1855, Margaux being the only one of the four châteaux presented to have obtained a score of twenty out of twenty.

With the acquisition in 1977 of the property by André Mentzelopoulos, Château Margaux is writing a new page in its history. Visionary, the man will accomplish a spectacular work on the vineyard, in the cellars and in the castle with the accomplished architectural prowess giving back to the property all the brilliance it deserves and by making shine the qualities of its unique terroir. Raising the Grand Vin of Château Margaux to the highest level, it will reintroduce the Second Wine of the Château, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, initiated in 1908.

Following in her father's footsteps due to his untimely death, Corinne Mentzelopoulos will take up the family banner with energy and passion to keep the rank of Château Margaux, which has become a Bordeaux masterpiece, so recognizable by its neo-Palladian allure. At the cost of extreme attention on the part of Corinne Mentzelopoulos and her team, vintage after vintage, the wines of Château Margaux are consistently distinguished among the best in the world.

Château Margaux owes its particularity to its rare and unique terroir. The vineyard of the property gives pride of place to the flagship black grape of the area, Cabernet Sauvignon, not to mention Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The clay-limestone soils of the estate give rise to legendary vintages, with a distinguished and sensual allure. Finesse, rare elegance and complexity are the characteristics of Château Margaux wines. Delicate aromas of rose and violet, concentrated notes of small black fruits, the olfactory palette gives off a totally distinctive typicity. On the palate, the density of the mouth, superbly structured by tannins with a high tannic concentration that have no hint of astringency, is striking with its length and freshness.

Château Margaux produces great white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux. 100% Sauvignon Blanc, its finesse, its complexity and its length on a mineral structure with good ageing potential make it one of the greatest white wines of Bordeaux.
